We have received questions about what will happen if they are inspected after the 1 April, 2019 date and they do not have their Food Production Managers Certificate.
According to the NMRA If a facility does not have a Food Production Manager with the required certification the violation could be recorded as a CORE violation and re-inspection would be required within 90 days. If they have other individuals that are required to have the Food Handlers Card; the violation could be a Priority Foundation violation and re-inspection would be in 10 days. If the facility is registered in a course prior to the inspection NMED will extend the correction date until the scheduled course date. April 1, 2019 is the new HARD DEADLINE for New Mexico Food Production Managers to achieve their certifications. After that date, enforcement actions could occur.
Upcoming Classes: This does not mean that you should put off getting your certification. One of the problems many food establishments are having is finding a qualified instructor that teaches the certification class. As the date approaches, it will become harder and harder to find a class in your area. If you see a class offered nearby, sign up for it. You can follow our training schedule by clicking here.
How much does it cost for the Food Production Managers class?
Different companies charge different prices from $65 to $200+ on the surface. The general rate for the class, exam, and certificate is around $125 from approved sources. There are many companies that are willing to take advantage of students that do not know the requirements and will sell you a online, quick, or fast paced course for as little as $65. What they don’t tell you is that you still have to pay for the test+$40 and the proctoring of the test +$25. If they buy a book to study (another $75), that means that the quick course can cost you $205 or more! We have seen many students pay upwards of $200+ by the time they pay for everything. At 5 Talents Training we offer the accredited course, a study guide and pre-test to review before the class, the required text book to use during the class, a full day of instruction from qualified and authorized instructors and the ability to ask questions before the exam for only $125. While the class is taught in English only, the pre-class materials are offered in English and Spanish and the actual exam is offered in many languages (15 day advance notice or ordering special exams).
Do you offer the Food Handlers Class?
We do not offer the Food Handlers Exam in-class because we believe in saving our customers money. For us to offer the in-class version of the class it would cost $45+. The online version (available from a reputable authorized source) can be a little as $17. Your workers can log on and off at your convenience. It just makes sense to take the class this way. Ask our senior instructor Jennifer, about discounts that may apply towards the on-line Food Handlers course.
